Just when I thought Amber was beginning to grow out of some of her obnoxious behaviors…

Last night I let her outside for a while to do her business. When she reappeared at the back door, my son says (as he’s letting her in the house), “Amber’s filthy again!” Sure enough, her face and paws were black with mud, and now running all over the house trying to escape all the people chasing her back to the door. After we finally got her back outside, my husband realized that the blackness on her face was not dirt, but ants. Yes indeed, my precious little doggie had apparently been digging ferociously into an anthill.

How on earth does one get an army of ants off a dog? Well, first we tried hosing her down. But those little ants were determined to hang on for dear life. I don’t think even one ant came off with the hose. Then I thought through the array of chemicals we might be able to spray on her to kill them, but none came to mind that would not also kill her – a thought that was really tempting at the moment. Finally we realized the only thing we could do was pick them off… one by one by one by one…

Sounds like one of those moments when you have to remind yourself of all the good reasons you have a pet – our cats make us do this all the time 🙂
